COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Tennis team (5-6, 0-2 PBC) had its toughest task yet, falling at National No. 1 Columbus State University (11-1, 2-0 PBC) 6-1 Saturday.
The Bobcats got a win in third doubles, but CSU took the first and second slots for the doubles point. Gabriel Cizek (Dolní Břežany, Czech Republic) and Jesus Villamizar Abia (Valencia, Venezuela) beat Javier Cueto Ramos and Justin Welz, 6-3. The Cizek and Villamizar Abia pairing is now 2-1 on the year.
In first doubles, Sebastian Nunez (Buford) and Enzo Sergi (Nice, France) lost to Alvaro Regalado and Tommaso Schold 6-4. On the second line, Karol Malirz (Marbella, Spain) and Jorge Robinson (Entre Rios, Argentina) teamed for a 6-2 loss to Christian Garay and Felix Steen.
The Bobcats got a win in the sixth slot due to injury, evening the match 1-1, but the Cougars then ran the table.
In first singles, Malirz lost to the nation's No. 1 singles player in Regalado 6-1, 6-4. Second singles was a 6-4, 6-2 loss for Masumi Komada (Aichi, Japan) to No. 47 Schold. Third singles brought a pair of 6-1 sets and a loss for Cizek to Garay. In fourth singles, Robinson lost to Steen 6-2, 6-1. Nunez lost in fifth singles 6-3, 6-2 to Welz.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, March 29 at 3 p.m., playing host to No. 7 University of North Georgia.
