Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Volleyball squad (0-1) lost its season opener to 2021 NCAA Regional Qualifier and Mountain East Conference Regular-Season Champion West Virginia State University (1-0) in three sets Friday.
"I thought there were some good take-aways from tonight's match," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "I'm really encouraged for the season moving forward."
The Bobcats dropped the first set of the 2022 Bobcat Classic showdown 25-11, then took the Yellow Jackets to the limit in set two, falling in extra points 28-26. A 25-22 final set for WVSU decided the match.
The second set featured an epic seven-point stretch on set point for the Yellow Jackets, bringing a 24-17 score to even at 24-24. Callie Miller (Acworth) had a pair of kills in that stretch.
GCSU had eight kills from sophomore Ally Hall (Cumming) to lead the way, flanked by seven from Miller. Hall also tied for the team lead in digs with 10, sharing that honor with freshman libero Alanis Bernis (Auburn). Senior setter Emily Long (Mooresville, North Carolina) led with 17 assists.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader to finish off the 2022 Bobcat Classic. Action for GCSU starts at noon against Limestone University and the Bobcats close out the tourney with Southern Wesleyan University at 4 p.m.
