ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A huge fourth quarter sunk the Georgia College & State University Women's Basketball team (12-9, 4-7 PBC) Wednesday night at Flagler College (6-15, 3-8 PBC) resulting in a 59-53 loss for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats were led by sophomore Rose Bone (Monroe, Georgia) with a GCSU-career high 13 points to go with six boards. Senior guard Harper Vick (Marietta, Georgia) added 11 to the cause.
The GCSU Women controlled the majority of the contest, leading by five at the end of the first quarter, nine at half and seven at the end of the third. A huge 26-13 turnaround in the fourth by the Saints would be enough to complete the comeback.
The Bobcats led from the first possession, a jumper knocked down by Bone. GCSU held onto its lead until the five-minute mark of the fourth quarter, when Sharale McCormick netted a three-pointer for the Saints, tying the game 46-46. Flagler tightened up defensively when it mattered most, holding GCSU without a point for the final 73 seconds.
With the 11 points, Vick now has 1,270 in her career, good for seventh in school history. She passed Carla Hull (1989) in today's action. Up next is sixth place and Dominique Huffin (2011) at 1,280.
The loss puts Georgia College at 4-7 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, tied for eighth. The top eight teams advance to the PBC Tournament, beginning March 1.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 4 at noon, traveling to Augusta University.
