MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Women's Basketball team (15-12, 7-10 PBC) used a stifling defensive effort to defeat Flagler College (6-21, 3-14 PBC) 53-36 Wednesday on Senior Night in the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats held Flagler to just 19 percent shooting (10-52) from the floor and six percent (1-16) from three-point range. The 36 points allowed by GCSU was the lowest this season, and the fewest since Dec. 19, 2016, also against Flagler.
GCSU's scoring effort was led by sophomore Alexa Geary (Calhoun), netting a game-high 15 points with five boards. Junior guard Myra Strickland (Duluth) filled a boxscore with 10 points, a team-high eight rebounds, three assists and a steal.
It was the annual Senior Night contest for the Bobcats, as post-game they honored Harper Vick (Marietta) and Cassidy Markle (Cumming). Markle knocked down a pair of threes for six points, pulled in five rebounds and tallied both a block and a steal. Vick played in the 123rd game of her career, breaking the school record of 122 set originally in 1991 by GCSU Hall of Famer Sherita Ballard, and matched by Breane Haggard in 2004. Vick has not missed a single game in her five seasons with the Bobcats.
The win puts GCSU at 7-10 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, good for eighth. The Bobcats have clinched a playoff berth and could finish as high as the No. 6-seed. The PBC Tournament begins March 1 in Americus.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m., traveling to Columbus State University.
