GCSU Golf 10th after First Round of 2023 Bobcat Invitational

EATONTON, Ga. – With frost cutting Monday's action in half to a single round, the Georgia College & State University Golf squad stands 10th at the 2023 Bobcat Invitational.

GCSU carded a 15-over 295 on the par-70, 6,730-yard Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee course. The Bobcats are seven strokes from the top five.

Senior Isaac Samples (Loganville) is in sixth place after an even-par effort. He had a beautiful stretch of three-straight birdies on holes Nos. 10-12.

Classmate Nathan Moore (Bristol, United Kingdom) is 32nd in the 84-golfer field. He posted a 73 in today's action, including three birdies. Freshman Ty Darsey (Sandersville) finished with a 75 in 48th place. He carded four birdies in round one.

Fourth on the team and 65th overall was freshman Browning Benton (Macon) with a 77. He had a stretch of nine holes at par today from Nos. 9-17. Freshman Parker Houck (Monroe) rounded out the starters with an 83.

GCSU also sent six individuals to the course. Junior Austin Quillian (Eatonton) led that group with a 77 in 65th place. Blane Davis (Cartersville) posted a 79, while Noah Bauer (Woodstock) put in an 80. Kam McDaniel (Harlem) and Matthew Rogers (Macon) each posted 81s and Billy Goddard (Suwanee) had an 85.

No. 5 University of North Georgia leads the team race at even par, besting Florida Southern College by a single stroke. North Georgia's Stephen Kinsel posted a 67 for the individual lead.

The second and final round gets underway tomorrow, March 21 at 9:30 a.m.
