MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The
Georgia College & State University women's basketball team took their first Peach Belt Conference home loss of the season as Georgia Southwestern State University defeated the Bobcats 62-50 Saturday (Jan. 27) afternoon at the Centennial Center.
GCSU fell to 9-9 on the season and 3-5 in the PBC. The 19th-ranked Hurricanes improved to 14-2 and 7-1 in the conference. The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday (Jan. 31) at 5:30 p.m. to take on Augusta University at home.
Georgia College had two shooters in double figures on the afternoon in
Hannah Cail and
Myra Strickland. Cail led the offense with five buckets from the floor and two from being the arc while adding a 3-for-4 performance from the free throw line to total 15 points. Strickland put up 12 points going 50 percent from the floor and 66 percent from long range. Strickland also toed the charity stripe for eight attempts and banked six.
Alexa Geary had the third most points with seven coming from two field goals and two free throws.
Ashyia Willis and
Jaleah Storr led the team in assists with three each accounting for 60 percent of the team's total.
The big Bobcat forwards split game time against the Hurricanes picking up 13 of the 37 GCSU rebounds.
Dashaun Jackson led the team with seven boards with four coming under the GSW basket and three coming down for second chance points.
Jada Warren had the second most rebounds with six including five under the Georgia Southwestern basket. Warren also added a 2-for-2 day accounting for four points. Cail had the third most boards on the afternoon with five all on the defensive side of the ball.
