AUGUSTA, Ga. | Georgia College & State University's
Ashley Bentz has been named the Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week ending Feb. 25.
Bentz went 5-0 in singles and 4-1 in doubles in a busy week for the Bobcats. The freshman from Suwanee, Georgia, won in straight sets in singles against Clark Atlanta University, the University of West Georgia, Savannah State University and Lincoln Memorial University. Against Valdosta State University, Bentz dropped the first set to Olivia Pezo 6-4, but rallied to win the next two by identical scores of 6-2. She was at No. 3 singles in every match except against Savannah State where she played at No. 2.
In doubles, she partnered with
Chiara Santoro against Clark Atlanta and Valdosta State, going 1-1. She then paired with
Shradha Chhabra against West Georgia, Savannah State and Lincoln Memorial, winning all three. Bentz is currently 9-1 in singles play this spring and 7-2 in doubles.
The 22nd-ranked Bobcats (6-4) return to action Wednesday (Feb. 28) with a 3 p.m. match in Macon, Georgia, against Division I's Mercer University.
