Four GCSU student-athletes named to CSC Academic All-District® team

AUSTIN, Texas | Georgia College & State University had four student-athletes - Alexa Geary, Myra Strickland, Jada Warren and Ashyia Willis  - named to the College Sports Communicators NCAA Divsion II Women's Basketball Academic All-District® Team. 

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must have either played in 90 percent of their team's games or started in 66 percent of their contests.

Geary, a junior guard from Calhoun, Georgia, has a 3.56 GPA as an exercise science major with a minor in business administration. Geary averaged 7.9 points and 3.0 rebounds in 29 games last season. She led the Bobcats in free throw shooting (.830, 44-of-53) and finished third with 34 three pointers.

Strickland, a senior guard from Duluth, Georgia, has posted a 3.52 GPA as an exercise science major. She averaged 8.8 points and 3.1 rebounds for the season, while shooting 38.3 percent (49-of-128) from the three-point line and 70.4 percent (38-of-54) from the free throw line. Strickland, who scored 1,164 points over her collegiate career at GCSU and Winthrop University, finished fifth in the Peach Belt Conference in three pointers and sixth in three pointers per game (1.75).

Warren, a junior forward from Norcross, Georgia, has a 3.60 GPA as an exercise science major. Warren averaged 8.8 rebounds and 3.7 points this season for the Bobcats. Warren, who pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds against Columbus State University, grabbed 256 rebounds and shot 44.0 percent (40-of-91) from the field. She also collected 22 blocked shots, 21 assists and 13 steals. Warren was 50th in NCAA Division II and led the PBC in rebounds. She was also first in the Peach Belt in rebounds per game (8.8). Warren finished seventh in the league in blocked shots.

Willis, a junior guard from Gainesville, Georgia, has a 3.54 GPA as an economics major with a minor in finance. Willis averaged 9.7 points and grabbed 2.3 rebounds this season. She also dished out 90 assists for the Bobcats, while shooting 40.4 percent (115-of-285) from the floor and 81.5 percent (44-of-54) from the free throw line. Willis, who needs just 155 more points to score 1,000 points in her career, finished fifth in the Peach Belt in assists, sixth in assists per game (3.1) and 11th in assist-turnover ratio (1.38).

The Bobcats finished their 2023 season with a 12-17 record and advanced to the Peach Belt Tournament.

The Division II CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects of the 2023-24 program.
