GCSU secures hold on fourth place with 65-58 win over Georgia Southwestern

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Hannah Cail and Miracle Parker each scored 14 points as Georgia College & State University defeated Georgia Southwestern State University 65-58 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game for homecoming Saturday (Feb. 22) afternoon inside the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats climbed to 16-10 overall and to 9-7 in the PBC to maintain fourth place with two games left in the regular season, while the Hurricanes fell to 11-13 and 7-9. GCSU will play its final home regular season game against Augusta University Tuesday (Feb. 25) at 5:30 p.m. The Bobcats will honor their senior class prior to the contest.

Both teams traded leads three times to open the contest, as the Hurricanes led quickly by four to start, but a three-pointer from Evie DePetro gave the Bobcats their first lead. However, Georgia Southwestern regained the lead. GCSU regained momentum towards the end of the quarter as Miracle Parker's three-pointer and consecutive layups from Hannah Cail pulled to within two points (15-13).

The teams continued their competitive close game in the second quarter, but a layup from Parker gave the Bobcats the lead back. GCSU added on for the remainder of the half, and three-pointers from Cail and Deshonna Gaither gave the Bobcats a 31-27 lead at the half.

They traded shots in the third quarter, with the Bobcats attempting to maintain a three-point lead over the Hurricanes. Nylah Nuri knocked down a three-pointer to bring the lead to five, but an answer-back three-pointer from Ndidimaka Ndukwe dropped the lead to two.

GCSU led off the fourth quarter with consecutive three-pointers from Nuri and Parker, but the big lead was soon erased, and the Bobcats once again had to fight to maintain a lead. Nevertheless, GCSU did the job, keeping a three-point lead until the end.

Parker and Cail's 14 points led the Bobcats, followed by Ashyia Willis (10) and Gaither (9). Jada Warren also tallied another double-digit rebound performance with 16.
