MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University doubled up Flagler College in the fourth quarter as the Bobcats picked up an 82-73 victory in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Wednesday (March 5) evening in the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats, who are seeded fourth in the tournament, improved to 17-12 and will now face No. 1 seed University of North Georgia, which is ranked seventh nationally, in a 1 p.m. semifinal game Saturday (March 8) in Dahlonega, Georgia. The fifth-seeded Saints ended their season at 13-15.
North Georgia and GCSU split its regular season games, each winning on the other's home court. UNG won 80-75 in Milledgeville Jan. 8 before The Bocats returned the favor 51-43 in Dahlonega Feb. 5.Â
The Bobcats, who were hosting their first PBC Tournament game since 2011, are making their first appearance in the semifinals since 2018 when North Georgia defeated GCSU 69-66.
Ashyia Willis led the Bobcats with 24 points, while
Deshona Gaither added 15 points and seven rebounds.
Hannah Cail posted 12 points and four assists, while
Miracle Parker added 11.
Jada Warren, who leads NCAA Division II in rebounds and rebounding, grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and added six points.
In a game that saw seven lead changes and four ties, Flagler opened up its largest lead - eight points (56-48) - after a Marley Smith tip in with 2:52 remaining in the third quarter.
GCSU cut the deficit in half to four points at 60-56 on a Willis jumper right before the end of the quarter. A Warren layup and a
Nylah Nuri three-pointer gave the Bobcats a 61-60 advantage with 8:51 left in the game.
The lead switched back and forth between the teams over the next four minutes before a Parker jumper gave the Bobcats the lead for good at 65-64 with 5:30 to go. A Gaither layup and an old-fashioned three-point play from
Rose Bone pushed the GCSU lead to six (70-64) with 4:33 left.
After a Flagler basket, the Bobcats, who outscored the Saints 26-13 in the final quarter, got a three-pointer from Gaither and a Willis jumper to open up a nine-point lead (75-66) with 3:01 to play. GCSU opened its largest lead - 11 points (77-66) on a Willis steal and layup with 92 seconds remaining. The closest the Saints would get the remainder of the way was six points (79-73).
