MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Sloane Vick recorded a career-high 15 points, helping Georgia College & State University to a 50-45 comeback victory over the University of South Carolina-Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball contest Wednesday (Feb. 11) night inside the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats, who outscored USC Aiken 24-10 in the fourth quarter, improved to 8-15 overall and 4-11 in PBC play, while the Pacers fell to 7-16 overall and 4-11 in PBC play. GCSU returns against No. 16 Columbus State University Saturday (Feb. 14) at 1:30 p.m. in Columbus, Georgia.Â
The contest started slowly with the Bobcats collecting their first two points on a Deshona Gaither layup almost three and a half minutes into the game. USC Aiken scored its first point on a Nika Kurdija free throw at the 1:52 mark, and the Bobcats led 7-1 after the opening 10 minutes.Â
The Pacers restarted their offense to start the second quarter, taking their first lead on a Mahkayla Premo jumper in the paint, and adding on a Kurdija three-pointer. Premo put up five points in the last ninety seconds of the second half, including a last-second layup to give the Pacers a four-point lead going into half.Â
USC Aiken continued to add on throughout the third quarter as Zenia Palaska herself scored six straight points to give the Pacers a nine-point lead (33-24) with 2:49 remaining.Â
GCSU worked hard into the deficit from the start in the fourth quarter, as Natalia Bolden began the comeback with a tip-in and foul for an old-fashioned three-point play. Bailey Vick and Elizabeth Wynn brought it down to one with consecutive jump shots as well.Â
Sloane Vick knocked down a three-pointer with 4:01 remaining to give GCSU its first lead since the second quarter. Natalia Bolden followed up with a jumper to move the lead to four, and late free throws from Gaither and Bolden sealed it for the Bobcats.
Sloane Vick's 15 points led the Bobcats, with Bolden following closely with 13. Bolden also led in rebounds with 15, cementing a double-double, and Wynn accumulated nine boards. Bailey Vick assisted five times.Â
All three of the Bobcats' three-pointers were from Sloane Vick. The Bobcats won the rebound game 48-29.Â
