MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University baseball pitcher Jake Beaver has been named the Zaxbys Player of the Week.

Beaver, a senior left-handed pitcher from Gainesville, Georgia, helped the Bobcats sweep a Peach Belt Conference series against the University of South Carolina-Beaufort.

Beaver retired an NCAA-era record-tying 16 strikeouts over eight innings in game two of the series. The 16 strikeouts equaled the number set by Steve Pacheco on March 8, 2000, against West Chester University. Beaver retired the side on strikeouts in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. Beaver, who only walked one, scattered eight hits - all singles - as he allowed just one earned run.

GCSU returns to action Tuesday (March 3) as they travel to Due West, South Carolina, for a 2 p.m. non-conference contest against Erskine College.
