MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College &
State University soccer team (3-3-1) outlasted the University of
West Georgia (2-5) tonight (Sept. 18) 3-2 in a double-overtime
battle.
Georgia College's first goal of the night came from the foot of
senior Kara
Teresi (Tampa, Fla.), breaking the Bobcat's scoreless
streak with assistance from junior midfielder Ally Treat
(Fayetteville, Ga.). Megan McAlpin
(Newnan, Ga.) found a pass from Amanda Veillon
(Lilburn, Ga.) to net the second goal of the night, giving
the 'Cats a 2-0 lead.
The Bobcats were up 2-0 during the early going but the Wolves
clawed their way back tying things up and sending the contest into
overtime. During the second overtime, Anna Wierzbicki
(Newnan, Ga.) and McAlpin assisted Teresi in scoring the
winning goal for the Bobcats. The goal was the second of the night
and of the season for Teresi.
"This match was a real test of out character," said head coach
Juan Pablo
Favero. "To give up a 2-0 lead and miss two penalty
kicks and still pull out a win makes this a great character game
for us."
The win gave Favero 100 in his career as a women's coach,
spending time at Missouri Baptist University and Newberry College
before coming to Georgia College a year ago. He now stands at
100-70-24 in his 11 seasons as a women's coach.
In the net for Georgia College, Mary Rob Plunkett
(Augusta, Ga.) collected six saves and allowed one goal.
The Bobcats outs shot the Wolves 24-17, including 7-2 in both
overtimes. The 'Cats also won the battle in the corners 7-2.
The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, Sept. 20 as they host
Barry University at 1 p.m.
