WINTER PARK, Florida – The Georgia College soccer team (0-2) ended its weekend trip in Florida falling 5-0 to nationally-ranked No. 14 Rollins College (2-0) Sunday.
This marks the second year in a row that the Bobcats have played nationally-ranked team in one of their two opening matches. In 2013, they started the year 1-1 and rebounded to a 10-win season.
"I thought the girls continued to fight hard this game and gave a strong effort," said Bobcat head coach Hope Clark. "Rollins has some quality finishers and we were unable to generate anything going forward. We have a lot of work to do before our home opener Friday night."
The Bobcats formed the second opponent of the season for the Tars. Rollins opened with No.22 Lenoir-Rhyne University, winning 7-1.
In today's matchup, senior Annie Stephens (Fayetteville, Georgia) played all 90 minutes in goal with two saves during the match, holding Rollins from notching another seven goals.
The Bobcats were out-shot 20-1 in an effort that will probably catapult Rollins into the nation's top-10. 2013 All-Region honoree Brenna McKie tallied a hat-trick for Rollins, flanked by one goal each from All-Region midfielder Mora Johnson and Mackenzie Miller.
The Bobcats will host their home opener Friday, Sept. 12 against the University of North Alabama at 7:30 p.m., as part of the annual Bobcat Shootout. The University of West Georgia will take on Lynn University in the opener of the tourney.
