Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College volleyball team (7-6) started off the month of October with a victory Friday night at the Centennial Center, topping the College of Coastal Georgia (16-2) in four sets.
Ranked No. 13 in the NAIA, Coastal Georgia managed only the second set, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17 and 25-18.
"Tonight was a total team effort," said Bobcat head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "Our passing and defensive game was strong and it helped us run a consistent offense."
The offense produced three double-digit attackers, as junior Miller Howard (Suwanee) paced the squad with 17 kills. Classmate Caroline Long (Roswell) added 14 and sophomore Maggie Roper (Buford) totaled 11.
The Bobcats had an amazing four players bring up double-digit digs, led by Long and sophomore Katie Ray (Cumming) at 17 apiece. Howard tallied 15 and sophomore Chandler Ewaldsen (Savannah) posted 13. Freshman setter Kayla Brockway (Jacksonville, Florida) ran a tight offense with 48 assists.
Long's double-double was her second of the year, while Howard recorded her first this season.
The squad hit .258, posting just 17 errors, while the Mariners hit just .120 with 27 errors.
The block game was solid for Georgia College as well, as the team posted 10 total blocks. Leading the way with eight was freshman Taylor Svehla (Cumming).
The victory is the seventh of the season for the Bobcats, tying the three-year old program record set a season ago.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m., playing host to Flagler College.
