GC Volleyball Edged in Four by USC Aiken

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College women's volleyball's (9-10, 4-7 PBC) bid for double-digit wins came up short Friday night, as the Bobcats lost to USC Aiken (19-3, 8-3 PBC) in four sets at the Centennial Center.

Georgia College came out firing in the first set, taking the frame 25-20, just the second time in program history the Bobcats have taken a set from the Pacers. USC Aiken responded well, taking the final three, but not without a fight, by 25-21, 25-18 and 25-21.

"We came out with a lot of energy and played at a higher level than we have recently," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "We are looking forward to build on this for tomorrow's match."

Georgia College had two attackers reach double-digit kills for the first time since the win over the College of Coastal Georgia Oct. 2, a six-match stretch. Freshman Ebony Powers (Jacksonville, Florida) led all attackers with 15 kills, hitting .368. Classmate Taylor Svehla (Cumming) joined her with 11 kills, coming on 27 attacks. Svehla narrowly-missed a double-double, adding nine digs and a team-high four blocks.

Rookie Kayla Brockway (Jacksonville, Florida) led the team with 41 assists and 11 digs, posting her seventh double-double of the year. Leading the squad in digs, however was junior Caroline Long (Roswell), posting a career-high 22 to go with nine kills. Sophomore Katie Ray (Cumming) also pulled in 19 digs.

The loss puts Georgia College at 4-7 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, positioned eighth in the league standings. The top eight teams advance to the PBC Tournament in November.

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m., playing host to Lander University (19-8, 7-4 PBC). The Bearcats most recently beat Augusta University 3-0 tonight.
