Bobcat Volleyball Ends Season in PBC Quarterfinals

Box Score

AIKEN, S.C. – A breakthrough season for Georgia College volleyball (12-16) has come to a close, as the No. 8-seed Bobcats fell in four sets at No. 1-seed USC Aiken (26-4) in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Volleyball Tournament Wednesday.

The trip to the PBC Tournament was the first in program history, a season of firsts for Bobcat volleyball. Georgia College eclipsed the 10-win plateau for the first time, picked up their first road PBC win, and got their first PBC season series sweep in a banner year.

"We left it all on the court tonight," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "I'm very proud of our effort and this team. We had a great season and our future is very bright."

Georgia College went toe-to-toe with the best team in the league, dropping the first two sets by tight 25-23 and 25-20 scores. The Bobcats took the third set 25-22, then fell in the fourth 25-20 to finish the match.

The Bobcats got two attackers with double digit kills, as freshmen Ebony Powers (Jacksonville, Florida) and Taylor Svehla (Cumming, Georgia) each had 11. Svehla hit a blistering .310, adding five total blocks to finish with a team-high 14 points.

Freshman setter Kayla Brockway (Jacksonville, Florida) had 32 assists and 17 digs, her 12th double-double this season. Sophomore Katie Ray (Cumming, Georgia) led the defense with 24 digs, as the Bobcats had four in double-digits. Along with Brockway, senior Ella Anastasiades (Atlanta, Georgia) had 15 and junior Caroline Long (Roswell, Georgia) 13.

The loss brings a close to the season for GC Volleyball. Along with the on-court highlights, the Bobcats put seven student-athletes on the PBC All-Academic Team this season.
