Box Score 2 FLORENCE, S.C. – The Georgia College volleyball team (4-3) rebounded well from a four-set loss to undefeated University of Alabama-Huntsville (9-0), taking down the University of Mount Olive (0-8) in four sets to break even on the final day of the Francis Marion University Invitational Saturday.
"Today was a total team effort," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "We were tested and learned some lessons. This was a great weekend for us leading into conference play."
The Bobcats took the first set from UAH, 25-17. Then the Chargers battled back with three straight at 25-18, 25-18 and 25-13.
Junior Caroline Long (Roswell, Georgia) had her first career double-double, tallying 10 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Kayla Brockway (Jacksonville, Florida) joined her with a double-double, her fourth-straight, pulling in 13 digs with 37 assists.
The defense was busy, as sophomore Katie Ray (Cumming, Georgia) led with 29 digs and junior Miller Howard (Suwanee, Georgia) added 22.
In the win over Mount Olive, the Bobcats took the first 25-14, then the Trojans responded 25-21 to tie up the score. Georgia College dominated the final two sets 25-12 and 25-10.
Sophomore Maggie Roper (Buford, Georgia) responded well to her first start of the season, putting down 12 kills on a .455 attack percentage. She also pulled in 12 digs for a double-double. Freshman Taylor Svehla (Cumming, Georgia) hit .348 and added 11 kills to flank Roper.
Sophomore Mollie Michel (Peachtree City, Georgia) ran the offense to the tune of 38 kills. Leading the squad in digs was Howard at 14.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m., playing host to the University of Montevallo to kick of Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play.
