Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – A pair of second-half goals felled the Georgia College Soccer team (6-6-1, 3-6 PBC) 2-0 Saturday in a Senior Day matchup at Bobcat Field against Young Harris College (6-2-3, 5-2-1 PBC).
Prior to the match, the Bobcats honored their eight seniors, as Jessica Catapano (Alpharetta), Alex Giles (Dacula), Allyease Schwartz (Roswell), Millie York (Hove, England), Sol Baldassini (Miami, Florida), Cayce Hamilton (Johns Creek), Liz Franco (Milton) and Emily Wilhelm (Suwanee) shared a special recognition from Bobcat Nation.
The teams went toe-to-toe in the first half, coming up scoreless after eight total shots; the Bobcats recording five.
Lucero Robayo got the scoring started in the 49th minute on a great individual effort, working through the defense on the right wing and firing home a shot inside the far post. The goal was Robayo's fifth this season.
It took nearly 30 minutes, but the Mountain Lions doubled their advantage in the 77th minute on Laisy Scardassi's fifth goal this year. The ball was entered into the box, knocked around by both offensive and defensive players a few times, and then shoved across by the YHC forward.
Young Harris went on the offensive in the second half, finishing with a 16-11 advantage in shots.
Sophomore Ashlee Graham (Decatur) made three saves in the loss, while YHC goalkeeper Kylie Mason made four stops in the clean sheet.
The loss keeps Georgia College at nine total points on the season, good for ninth in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Standings with three matches left. The top eight advance to the PBC Tournament beginning Nov. 2.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m., playing host to Flagler College (4-4-3, 3-3-2 PBC). The Saints most recently lost to Columbus State University 5-0 today at home.
