Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – A late second half Flagler College (5-4-3, 4-3-2 PBC) goal boosted the Saints over Georgia College (6-7-2, 3-7 PBC), 2-1 Monday night at Bobcat Field.
This match went back-and-forth all night with both teams playing good, physical soccer. Flagler was the first to strike in the seventh minute when Frida Lindbloom collected the ball at the top of the box and fired a shot that deflected off the left goal post and in for her third of the year.
The Saints lead was short lived. In the 10th minute, sophomore Sofia Lekas (Lizella) ripped a shot from about 30 yards out, but was blocked by a Saint on a nice defensive play. Junior Amanda Bartholomew (Peachtree City) who continues to have the hot foot for Georgia College, was there to collect the rebound. After maintaining possession, Bartholomew lofted the ball over the keeper's head into the far side net for her seventh goal of the season and her third-consecutive game with a score. The Bobcats went into the break tied at one.
Georgia College threatened in the 73rd minute off of a corner kick from senior Sol Baldassini (Miami, Florida). Baldassini served a nice ball into the box where she found sophomore Anya Mancinelli (Atlanta) on the far side post who attempted a header, but just barely missed wide right.
After over 30 minutes of tough, hard fought play in the second half, Flagler broke the tie with a goal in the 79th minute. Saint midfielder Abby Austin found some open ground just beyond the right wing where she finessed a fantastic ball that sailed just beyond the reach of senior Bobcat keeper Jessica Catapano (Alpharetta) for the goal. Nothing much the senior keeper could do about the shot, the placement was near perfect. Catapano had three saves Monday evening.
