Bobcat Women Start PBC Play with Win over Armstrong, 62-53

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (6-1, 1-0 PBC) got a balanced scoring effort to get past Armstrong State University (4-6, 0-1 PBC) 62-53 Saturday at the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats dominated the middle two quarters of play, 29-17 to get the edge, hanging on through a Pirate surge late in the fourth. Georgia College used nearly the entire roster, as 11 Bobcats reached the scoring column.

Senior LaRice Walker (Franklin) led all scorers with 13 points, including 7-for-9 from the free-throw line. She filled the boxscore, tallying six rebounds and four assists as well. Classmate Lindsey Reed (Stockbridge) joined Walker in double-digits with 11 points, hitting three from long range.

The teams played the first quarter at a torrid pace, and with a three-pointer from Machala Raymondville at the horn, the Pirates led 24-20. Sophomore Jalyn Slaughter (Kathleen) led the Bobcats with six points at the first break, already a season-high for the forward.

Senior guard Veronica Ryan (Clearwater, Florida) provided a pair of huge second-half three-pointers, finishing with eight points while helping to run the offense with five assists. The backcourt duo of Ryan and Walker had an impressive nine assists with just a single turnover.

The Bobcats got out-rebounded for the first time this season, but overcame that with stingy defense, allowing the Pirates to shoot just 28 percent (19-67), and causing 12 turnovers to Georgia College's eight.

The Bobcats are back in action Monday, Dec. 19 at 1:30 p.m., playing host to Flagler College for Life Enrichment Center Day.
