EMERSON, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (11-7) extended its win streak to five with a 6-5 victory against The No. 30 University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles (8-4) in a non-conference match-up at the Lake Point Sporting Community in Emerson, Ga.

The Bobcats faced a tied game when they had their final at-bat in the top of the ninth. The Screaming Eagles had tied up the game 5-5 when a single through the right side sent one of their own across the plate. A series of singles and a wild pitch had two Bobcats on first and third bases when Brandon Purcell (Glennville) stepped up to swing. He cracked a sacrifice fly out to right field and sent teammate Dylan Cook (Portola Valley, California) across the plate and broke the tie.

Georgia College had a busy day on the pitcher's mound, sending eight Bobcats to pitch. Reliever Kyle Ward (Rincon) was tagged with this game's win, improving his record 2-0. Chris Gammon (Chandler, Arizona) recorded his fourth save when he stopped the Screaming Eagles from scoring in the ninth. Both pitchers prevented any hits from Southern Indiana and each had a single strikeout during the single inning each pitched.

The Bobcats gained an early foothold against the Screaming Eagles when Georgia College racked up three runs in inning two. Wesley Wommack (Monroe) earned two of those runs when he sent the ball sailing above the fence with a home run. The Bobcats went on to add two more runs in the top of the fifth, but the Screaming Eagles retaliated with three runs of their own. Following a scoreless sixth inning, Southern Indiana tied up the game 5-5. Each team kept the other from breaking the tie though the eighth, but the ninth-inning sacrifice fly from Purcell put the Bobcats ahead. Georgia College's fielding made sure to send all of Southern Indiana's batters back to the dugout and the Bobcats added another win, 6-5.

Wommack and Cook led the team in RBIs against the Screaming Eagles with two apiece. Garrett Green (Bogart) and Purcell each earned an RBI of their own. Cook and shortstop Brandon Benson (Loganville) were the only two Bobcats to reach second on a hit.

The Bobcats will stay on the road for the next game. when they take on #10 Columbus State University in a three-game weekend series beginning Friday, March 11, at 3 p.m
