Bobcat Soccer Falls Short in PBC Quarterfinal, 1-0

Box Score

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Georgia College Soccer squad (11-6) saw an amazing run come to a close in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Quarterfinals Tuesday, as the No. 5-seed Bobcats dropped a 1-0 decision at No. 4-seed UNC Pembroke (13-4-1).

The lone score came with just 10:36 left in the match, as Alexis Pittman netted her eighth of the season off a cross from Kristina Stevenson.

The Bobcats had a pair of strong chances over the remainder of the match, but couldn't find the equalizer as UNCP saved one and blocked another.

The loss brings to a close an amazing 2017 season, one where the Bobcats managed eight wins in their final nine regular-season matches, including a 2-1 victory over No. 8 Columbus State University Saturday. Head coach Hope Clark hit the 100-win mark for her career Oct. 21 at Young Harris College, and junior Amanda Bartholomew (Peachtree City, Georgia) broke the school's 10-year-old single-season goals record in the same match. Georgia College matched the school record for conference wins set in 2015, despite two fewer teams in the PBC than there was that season. The 11 victories is also the third-best single-season total for a Bobcat soccer team.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup and the 2017 PBC Sportsmanship Institution of the Year, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level.
