Bobcat Women's Basketball Falls to Valdosta State, 59-50

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Seven second-half threes were a big part of the recipe as Georgia College Women's Basketball (3-5) was upended 59-50 by a strong Valdosta State University (7-1) squad Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats started strong, taking the first quarter 12-8 thanks in part to eight points from sophomore guard Harper Vick (Marietta).

VSU got its first lead of the game at 13-12 on a three pointer by Saniah Simpson-Patu at the 7:39 mark of the second quarter. The two teams would trade punches for the half, hitting the break with a 23-21 Blazer advantage.

After VSU would stretch its lead out in the third quarter, GC would battle back to within five with just over six minutes left, but could inch no closer.

Vick finished with a game-high 17 points, hitting half of her six shots from long range. Junior La'Shandria Mallard (Perry) chipped in a near double-double of eight points and 13 boards.

The Bobcats out-rebounded VSU 44-36, with senior Dail Adaway (Tifton) pulling in 10 rebounds, but the Blazers caused three more takeaways and turned that into a 16-8 advantage in points-off-turnovers.

VSU had four players reach double-digit points, led by Nari Garner with 14. The Bobcats did a good job of keeping dynamic guard Kayla Bonilla in check, netting just 11 points when the speedster came into the contest averaging 21.

The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, Dec. 15 at 1:30 p.m., kicking off Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play at UNC Pembroke.
