Box Score TAMPA, Fla. – Down 2-1 with only one trip left to the plate, the Georgia College Baseball team (1-0) rattled off a five-run rally to overtake Queens University (0-1) 6-2 Friday afternoon at the University of Tampa.
The Bobcats hit the ninth down by a run. 2019 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Freshman of the Year Cam Hill (Marietta, Georgia) ripped a single to center to start. After another single by senior KC Brown (Rincon, Georgia), sophomore Noah Mendlinger (Alpharetta, Georgia) was hit by a pitch to load them up.
Sophomore Jay Saunders (Moultrie, Georgia) tied the game with a sacrifice fly, then junior Paul Grazzini (Marietta, Georgia) gave GC the lead, bringing home Brown on another single to center. Back-to-back walks made it 4-2, then senior Cal Gentry (Perry, Georgia) plated a pair with a single to cap the scoring.
Hill finished 2-for-4 with a run and a double, while Grazzini was 2-for-3, scoring twice and plating one. Gentry had two hits as well, driving home the two runs.
Sophomore lefty Luc Scudellari (Roswell, Georgia) got the final eight outs in order with one strikeout for the win (1-0). Starter Kyle King (Johns Creek, Georgia) dazzled for five innings, scattering three hits for just a single run, no walks and five strikeouts.
GC Baseball is now 4-0 in season openers under head coach Jason Eller.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m., taking on No. 20 University of Mount Olive.
