Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia College Soccer Team (8-4, 3-3 PBC) shut out Young Harris College (4-6, 1-5 PBC) 3-0 on senior night.
The Bobcats capitalized early by scoring the opening goal in the first 10 minutes. Senior Alyssa Bergamini (West Suffield, Connecticut) scored the first goal of the night in the eighth minute off an assist from Alexis Bergamini (West Suffield, Connecticut). Alexis got the ball on the right wing and crossed to Alyssa who was in the 18 yard box, knocking it into the back netting to give the Bobcats the 1-0 lead.
The next goal was also off the foot of a senior in Cassie Balzano (Douglasville). This was Balzano's first goal of the match, coming in the 32nd minute. Aralyn Everett (Convington) picked up the assist, using her wheels to win the ball at midfield and send it to Balzano near the goal. The Bobcats went up 2-0 over the Mountain Lions.
The final goal of the match was also off the foot of Balzano. Becca Morris (Marietta) recorded the assist, flicking the ball off her head at midfield to Balzano. Balzano drove towards the goal and juked the goalkeeper for a wide open score to cap off senior night.
The Bobcats led at halftime 3-0 and no goals were scored in the second half.
The defense was phenomenal, holding Young Harris to six total shots, all in the second half. Senior Ryann Smith (Newnan) commanded the back line and eliminated spacing to hold the Mountain Lions to only three shots on goal. Senior Brooke Adams (Marrietta) commanded the midfield and played both sides of the ball extremely well. Adams and Morris both had multiple steals throughout the match, and played several excellent passes to the forwards.
Goalkeeper Kate Richardson (Marietta) picked up another win and shutout for her already impressive resume. She had three saves on the day and now has 50 on the season.
The Bobcats are back in action at Bobcat field Wednesday Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. to take on Clayton State University.
