MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Volleyball team (10-21, 4-6 PBC) beat Young Harris College (3-22, 0-10 PBC) in four sets Saturday at the Centennial Center, celebrating Senior Day with success.
The Bobcats took the first set 25-19 and added a 25-18 effort in set two. The Mountain Lions swiped a set 25-18 before the Bobcats closed things out in extra points 26-24 in the fourth. GC had 12 kills each in the first and second sets.
Graduate student Sarah Stewart (Savannah) pounded out 22 kills, hitting a strong .231 for the match. The kills total was one off the school-record four a four-set bout, set in 2018 by Libby Bochniak (2021). Freshman Ally Hall (Cumming) added eight kills and 10 digs to the cause.
Senior Lauren Talele (Woodstock) ran the offense to the tune of 39 assists and a .153 hitting percentage, the Bobcats' best number this month. Sophomore Bella DeSalvo (Hamilton, Ohio) had 17 digs to lead the match.
Prior to the contest, GC honored its five seniors, playing in their final match at the Centennial Center. Along with Stewart and Talele, the Bobcats celebrated Sarah Mangan (Farmingville, New York), Emily Sweatman (Fayetteville) and Morgan Overly (St. Simons Island).
The loss gives the Bobcats a sweep with the Mountain Lions in the season series, having beaten YHC on the road in four. The Bobcats are now 4-6 in PBC play, finishing fourth in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) standings.
Talele picked up three services aces in tonight's action, giving her 54 in her career, passing Katie Ray (2016) for sixth in school history.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Nov. 19 at the PBC Tournament, hosted by Augusta University. A bracket will be announced soon by the conference.
