Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Georgia College Women's Basketball team (2-2) took the fight to their first nationally-ranked opponent of the young season, beating No. 15 Valdosta State University (2-1), 56-45 on the road.
The defensive-minded Bobcats held the Blazers to just 29 percent shooting from the floor, and 23 percent from long range. The teams traded shots in the first quarter, with Georgia College leading 18-15 at the first break. VSU took the lead into halftime 29-27. The third quarter remained close, with GC closing on a 6-0 run to lead 40-35. The Bobcats kept VSU at arm's length for the final quarter to seal the upset win.
Junior guard Harper Vick (Marietta) had a game-high 15 points, hitting all four of her free-throws and pulling in five boards. She was flanked by eight points and five rebounds from Anaya Cone (Douglasville) off the bench. Freshman guard Ashyia Willis (Gainesville) provided seven points and six rebounds.
The Bobcats won the rebound battle 39-30 and were near-perfect at the charity stripe, hitting 13-of-14.
This marks the first win for Bobcat Women's Hoops over a nationally-ranked opponent since taking down then-No. 25 Lander University Jan. 13, 2018. The last win over an opponent positioned this high was also against Lander, topping the then-No. 4 Bearcats in the PBC Semifinals, March 5, 2011.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Nov. 27 at 12 p.m. eastern, traveling to Auburn University Montgomery.
