Box Score GREENWOOD, S.C.- The Georgia College Volleyball Team (2-1) took the victory at Lander University (1-3) Saturday in five sets.
The first set of the road match went to Lander University but only by three points 25-22. During the first set the Bobcats only had 10 kills with a .154 attack percentage.
The second set of the match went to GC. The Bobcats turned up the heat in this set out-scoring the Bearcats 25-16. There was an increase in kills this set to 14 with a much better .235 kill percentage.
With the match all tied at one set apiece, Lander bounced back in the third at 25-18. Set number four started with the Bobcats down 2-1. This set was crucial and GC came out with a hard-fought four-point win at 25-21 to force the fifth set.
The fifth set required extra points, as GC won 16-14.
"What a weekend for the Bobcats," said head coach Gretchen Krumdiek. "Today was a huge test for this team and it was a great payoff of all the hard work that has gone into training for over a year. There were a lot of challenges today that we needed to focus on, and we stuck to our game plan of staying disciplined and consistent. This was a fun match to coach today and we are all looking forward to home matches this week."
Throughout the five sets of today's match up the Bobcats had a total of 54 kills. Leading the offensive charge in kills with 19 was sophomore Sarah Stewart (Savannah, Georgia). She led the team with 22.5 points and added 14 digs for a double-double, and added three aces. Stewart had four kills in the deciding fifth set.
Senior Libby Bochniak (Marietta, Georgia) made her presence known on the court with a 15-kill, 20-dig double-double. She tied Jordyn Moellering (Cumming, Georgia) for the team lead in digs.
Junior setter Lauren Talele (Woodstock, Georgia) guided her team to the five-set win recording 45 assists and 11 digs. The defensive end of the victory was led by Moellering with 20 digs on the day, tied with Bochniak. The Bobcats had five different players in double-digit digs, as joining Moellering and Bochniak was Stewart with 14, Talele with 11 and freshman Bella DeSalvo (Hamilton, Ohio) with 10.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, March 16 in the Centennial Center to take on Flagler College at 6 p.m. No visiting fans are allowed, and seating is limited to the first 50 students and Bobcat student-athlete guests.
