MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Volleyball team (3-3, 3-3 PBC) lost to Francis Marion University (2-4, 2-4 PBC) in five sets Saturday night in the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats nearly caught lightening in a bottle for the second straight day. Yesterday, down 0-2 to UNC Pembroke, GC battled all the way back to take a five-set victory. In today's action, the Bobcats were again down 0-2 after 25-23 and 25-11 sets.
GC responded with a 25-19 win in the third, and forced a final set with a 25-21 victory in the fourth. The fifth was an extremely tight set, but the Patriots finished on a 5-1 run to take the victory. The Bobcats honored their four seniors prior to today's contest.
"This has been a very special class for our program," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "The four came in, made an immediate impact and helped grow the culture and success of Bobcat Volleyball. They have set records, advanced to the NCAA tournament and have played in in two PBC Conference Finals. They have accomplished so much while maintaining a high GPA and achieving the AVCA Academic Team award four years in a row. They will be very much missed when they move on and they should be very proud of what they are leaving behind. I will miss them very much!"
Each of the five seniors started, as Emily Pope (Canton) played the first set, tallying a kill and two digs. Libby Bochniak (Marietta) led the offense with 15 kills, tying for a team-best 18 digs as well. Jordyn Moellering (Cumming) joined Bochniak with that team lead at 18 digs. Emma Boughner (Bogart) pounded out 10 kills, hitting a strong .364 clip with just two errors. She also totaled three blocks.
Freshman Callie Miller (Acworth) showed off for the seniors, firing down a career-best 13 kills in her first career start. Junior Lauren Talele (Woodstock) had a 50-assist, 11-dig double-double, while sophomore Sarah Stewart (Savannah) added 12 digs.
With the 10 kills, Boughner now has 556 in her career, passing Emily Crowell (2019) for sixth in school history.
The Bobcats are back in action at USC Aiken Friday, March 26 at 6 p.m.
