GC Women Take Down Conference Foe in Overtime Thriller, 44-42

AUGUSTA, Ga.- The Georgia College Women's Basketball Team (5-7, 2-1 PBC) handed Augusta University (8-3, 1-1 PBC) their first conference loss of the season in a 44-42 overtime nailbiter Wednesday. This win snaps the Jaguars two-game winning streak.

The first and second quarters yielded low numbers for both squads as GC went into the half trailing 14-12. In the first half the Bobcats nabbed 27 rebounds compared to the Jaguars 20 with GC dominating under the defensive basket.

Coming back after the half, the Bobcats netted 11 points to Augustas 10 to cut the lead to one. The fourth quarter was a thriller taking the game into overtime. Lone senior Cassidy Markle (Cumming) toed the free throw stripe banking both shots to put the Bobcats up by three. With five seconds to go Augusta's November Morton made a shot from behind the arc for her first field goal of the day to send the game into overtime. 

Overtime kicked off with some missed shots from both squads then Ashyia Willis (Gainesville) put up a layup to give GC the lead. The Bobcats led by as many as four points in the final quarter of play. Augusta had the chance to force the game into a second overtime but missed a layup which was corralled by Anaya Cone (Douglasville) to solidify the win. 

Willis led the offensive charge banking 20 points as she has now put up 20 or more points in three of the last four contests for GC. Willis also added four rebounds and three assists to her stellar performance. 

Harper Vick (Marietta) was the second leading scorer with nine points. Vick also nabbed six rebounds, five of which came from Augusta misses. 

The leading rebounder for the Bobcats was Cone with 13. Cone dominated in the paint under the Jaguar basket with 10 of her 13 rebounds coming on the defensive side of the ball. Alexa Geary (Calhoun) had 11 rebounds on the night for the second most on the squad. All of her rebounds came from under the Augusta basket. 

The Bobcats took the win tonight to propel head coach Ross Jolly into the fourth slot overall in program history in wins with 11.
