GCSU Adds One to the Preseason All-PBC Team and Picks up No. 6 Overall

Full list

AUGUSTA, Ga.- The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) announced the preseason poll for Women's Soccer, Wednesday, naming Georgia College and State University as number six in the 10-team conference. The Bobcats also added a member to the Preseason All-PBC Team.

The PBC announced Bobcat midfielder Summer Ligon (Carrollton) was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team for her impressive 2021 season. Ligon started in all 17 games last season where she was a pivotal defensive midfielder. Not only was Ligon able to aid the team on the defensive side of things, she also was able to score the winning goal against Georgia Southwestern University for the thrilling 1-0 final score.

"Summer is a fantastic player and deserving of the recognition," said first year head coach Jack Marchant. "It's great for us as a team to have that starting point this season. We want to create an environment where we expect more of our players to be featured on this list where their hard work is recognized."

GCSU also picked up 53 votes in the coaches poll securing them the sixth overall PBC spot.

The defending conference champions, Flagler College, picked up 97 votes to be tabbed first in the conference. Columbus State University and the University of North Georgia pick up seeds No. 2 and No. 3 to complete the top three slots. Lander University picked up the No. 4 spot and Clayton State University came in front of the Bobcats to close out the top five.

"It's where we finished in the conference at the end of last season," said Marchant. "We will get our heads down and get to work. We have plenty of motivating factors that will get us going in the right direction."

GCSU will play their final preseason scrimmage Saturday Aug. 20 against Emmanuel College on Bobcat field at 5 p.m. The Bobcats start the regular season on the road as they take on Florida Southern College. Kickoff is set for Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. with live stats and broadcast links available at GCBobcats.com.
