YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Soccer (2-3-1, 1-0 PBC) picked up not only their first road win of the season but started conference play with a 1-0 win over Young Harris College (0-5, 0-1 PBC), Saturday.
Ava Martin (Gainesville) knocked in the goal for the Bobcats for the first of her career. The ball was misplayed off the foot of the goalkeeper and Martin was able to snag the ball to knock it into the back netting. GCSU had six shots on goal with three coming from Martin. Sophomore Aralyn Everett (Covington) was second in shots on goal with two.
The Bobcat defense played a great game to help hold the Mountain Lions scoreless. There were seven total saves in the contest for GCSU with two coming from the defense. Zelia Griffith (Livonia, Michigan) and Morgan Amrozowicz (Dacula) cleared the goal to help preserve the shutout. Goalkeeper Kate Richardson (Marietta) recorded the shutout for the blue and green with an impressive five saves. With her second save of the night, Richardson reached the 200 save mark for her superb career.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Sept 14 on the road at USC Beaufort (5-0, 1-0 PBC). Kick off is set for 2 p.m. with live stats and broadcast links available at GCBobcats.com.
