Bobcat Women's Hoops Finishes Strong at Augusta, 55-48

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Women's Basketball team (13-9, 5-7 PBC) got a measure of revenge Saturday, beating Augusta University (13-9, 6-6 PBC) 55-48 on the road. The Bobcat win evens out the season series with the Jaguars.  

The Bobcats were led by a pair of double-digit scorers in senior Harper Vick (Marietta) with 13 points, and sophomore Ashyia Willis (Gainesville) with 12.

The two teams came into the final quarter tied at 37-37. After trading points much of the final quarter, Augusta got within two at 50-48 on a Kiera Howard layup. The Bobcats held Augusta scoreless for the remainder of the game and scored on each of GCSU's remaining possessions to pick up the win.

The game was evenly matched, as neither team picked up a double-digit advantage. GCSU created distance with some great rebounding, topping the Jaguars 38-28. Sophomore Jada Warren (Norcross) led the Bobcats in rebounding with 13. GCSU also had a 9-0 advantage in second-chance points.

The win puts Georgia College at 5-7 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, good for sole possession of eighth. The top eight teams advance to the PBC Tournament, beginning March 1.

With 13 points today, Vick now has 1,283 in her career, good for sixth in school history. She passed Dominique Huffin (2011) in today's action. Up next is the top-five, starting with Enisha Donley (2015) at 1,341.

The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m., hosting USC Aiken.
