MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Women's Soccer and Head Coach
Jack Marchant announces the 2023 schedule.
"I am extremely excited to get this fall season underway," said Marchant. "We have brought back a fantastic group of returners who laid a great foundation for the fall, this past spring. On top of that we are bringing in a very talented freshmen class which will only enhance us. This group is ready to get to work and i'm eager to see where we as a collective unit can take this program."
The Bobcat have a 21 contest season ahead of them including three pre-season contests. GCSU will host two pre-season games against Middle Georgia State University and Anderson University.
The regular season consists of 18 games kicking off with a home opener against Francis Marion University on the newly renovated Bobcat Field. Soccer fans will have 12 opportunities, including pre-season, to see the Bobcats play at home this season.
GCSU has several notable games this season both in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) and outside of the conference.
A big game for the Bobcats will come on the road against the PBC tournament champions Flagler College on Sept. 30. The Saints concluded their season in the Southeast Region Final last season.
Another competitive contest for GCSU will come on the home turf of Bobcat Field against conference foe Columbus State University on Oct. 14. The Cougars made it to the NCAA final four last season losing out in the semifinal round.
The University of North Georgia will also be a tough road contest for the Bobcats as the Nighthawks finished their season in the NCAA Region Tournament. This game will take place on Oct. 21.
A good out of conference contest for GCSU will come in a home contest on Oct. 25 against Catawba College who also made an NCAA tournament appearance.
Bobcat Soccer returns several key players for the upcoming season including the top five leading scorers. Sophomores
Ava Martin (Gainesville) and
Sarah Mason (Atlanta) are both returning after a four goal season each. Mason was also an assist leader with three. Juniors
Amanda Dewey (Johns Creek),
Morgan Amrozowicz (Dacula) and
Aralyn Everett (Covington) are returning with three goals and two goals respectively. Everett was tied for the most assists with three. GCSU also brought back two veterans on the back line in
Katelyn Smith (Augusta) and
Katherine Crouse (Southington, Conn.).
Head Coach Marchant also added some notable transfers including four Division I additions. The twins
Chloe Markey (Alpharetta) and
Lily Markey (Alpharetta) join the team after two seasons at Bellarmine University. Two players from Georgia State University join the roster as well in
Sarah King (Stockbridge) and
Abbey Eison (Jefferson). Marchant also added seven freshmen to the mix.
The Bobcats are looking to improve upon the 5-8-3 and 4-4-2 PBC record from last season.
