MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Sydney Charles' first collegiate goal couldn't come at a better time for Georgia College & State University in its Peach Belt Conference women's soccer opener against the University of South Carolina-Beaufort Wednesday (Sept. 20) evening at Bobcat Field.
Charles, a junior defender from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, broke a 1-all tie on her header - her first in 36 career matches for the Bobcats - in the box with 16:38 remaining in the match. The match-winning goal was set up off a cross from the left side from
Morgan Amrozowicz.
For the first time this season, Georgia College took a 1-0 when
Amanda Dewey stole the ball 1:47 into the match and then put it in the back of the net for her team-leading third goal of 2023.
The Sand Sharks tied the match at 1 with 3:56 left before halftime. Kennedy Harris scored her third goal of the season as back-to-back passes from Kristen Beltestad and Synne Bye-Andersen.
The Bobcats outshot USC Beaufort 17-9. including a 9-5 edge on goal. GCSU doubled up the Sand Sharks 6-3 in corner kicks.
Kassidy Fortin tallied four saves in the Georgia College goal.
