MILLEGDEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia College & State University volleyball team took a tough three set loss to Augusta University to kick off Peach Belt Conference play Wednesday (Sept. 27) evening at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats, who fell to 10-5 overall and 0-1 in the PBC, took losses in the both the first and second sets by a score of 25-13. They tried to work back in the third set but fell 25-21. Augusta improved to 12-3 and 3-0.
Rachel Machovec picked up her ninth double-double of the season leading the offense with 12 kills. Rosa Fisher had the second most kills on the team as she nabbed seven. Riese Johnson had 24 of the Bobcats 26 assists in the contest.
On the defensive side of things, GCSU put up 58 digs as four players had double digits. Callie Miller led the dig effort with 17. Libero Oliva Alvarez had the second most with 12 and Johnson, picking up her seventh double-double of the season, was right behind her with 11. Machovec rounded out the dig leaders with 10. GCSU had six block assists on the night with Mary Kate Kotzin picking up half. Kotzin also added three kills.
The Bobcats are back in action for weekend conference action at Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina. They play Friday (Sept. 29) at 6 p.m. and Saturday (Sept. 30) at 3 p.m.
