INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. | The Georgia College & State University men's tennis team is ranked No. 4 in the latest NCAA Division II regional rankings.
Eight teams will be selected in the Southeast region for the national tournament. In the Southeast region, the winners from the Peach Belt Conference, South Atlantic Conference (Catawba College) and Conference Carolinas tournaments earn automatic berths while the other five will be at-large selections based on the regional rankings. There will be one more published regional ranking before the final selection by the NCAA for regional play May 5.
The Bobcats (13-5), who are ranked No. 31 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, are one of five Peach Belt teams out of the 10 teams listed in the Southeast regional ranking. Flagler College (17-2) is ranked No. 1, followed by GCSU, Columbus State University (11-8) at No. 6, University of North Georgia (10-6) at No. 7 and Lander University (10-6) at No. 8.Â
Catawba (20-2) is ranked second, while Wingate University (17-2) is third followed by Lincoln Memorial University (15-6) in fifth, Belmont Abbey (13-7) in ninth and Barton College (12-7) in 10th.
GCSU returns to action this weekend at the PBC Tournament in Columbus, Georgia. The Bobcats, who are seeded fifth, will face No. 4 seed Lander Friday (April 25) at 9 a.m. in the first round of the single-elimination tournament.
