INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. | Georgia College & State University is listed seventh in the Southeast region in the NCAA Power Index Report for the 2026 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament.
The NCAA Power Index, or NPI, is a ranking system used in Division II to evaluate team performance. NPI considers game results and the strength of opponents to calculate a team's NPI value and ranking. NPI calculations update throughout the season as teams play additional contests and opponent NPI values change. A team's final NPI is not determined until the final games and rankings of the season are complete.
NPI evaluates a team's season by considering both results and the strength of the teams it plays. Each contest produces a value based on whether the team won, lost or tied and the opponent's NPI. Sport committees establish settings, referred to as dials, that determine how certain factors are applied within the NPI calculation. These settings include the weighting between winning percentage and strength of schedule and the minimum number of wins a team must retain in its calculation.
This is the first published NPI regional ranking before the final selection by the NCAA for regional play Nov. 9. Eight teams will be selected in the Southeast region for the national tournament. In the Southeast region, the winners from the Peach Belt Conference, South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas tournaments earn automatic berths while the other five will be at-large selections based on the NPI.
GCSU is currently 6-3-3 overall and in third place in the Peach Belt with a 4-1-0 ledger. The Bobcats, who are seventh regional and 64th in NCAA with a 54.189 NPI, are one of four Peach Belt institutions in the top eight. GCSU joins No. 1 Columbus State University (59.484), No. 2 Catawba College (58.775), No. 3 University of North Georgia (58.648), No. 4 Lander University (55.712), No. 5 University of North Carolina at Pembroke (55.355), No. 6 Francis Marion University (54.935) and No. 8 Belmont Abbey College (53.913).
The Bobcats have two matches this week. GCSU hosts North Georgia, which is No. 21 nationally in NPI, at 7 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 14) at the Bobcat Soccer Field, before traveling to Columbus, Georgia, for a 2 p.m. meeting Saturday (Oct. 17) against Columbus State, which is 12th nationally in NPI.
