Bobcats in seventh place after opening day of Lander tournament

GREENWOOD, S.C. | The Georgia College & State University men's golf team is in seventh place after 36 holes of the Greenwood Men's Invitational hosted by Lander University Monday (March 9) afternoon.

The Bobcats posted rounds of 295 and 280 on the par 72, 6,800-yard layout on the Greenwood Country Club course to stand at 575. The 280 score was the second under-par round of the season and the low round of the campaign for GCSU. Flagler College leads the 16-team field at 564, one stroke better than No. 1-ranked Grand Valley State University.

GCSU has two golfers inside the top 20. Andrew Lutjens is the top Bobcat as he shot two-under par 70 in the morning before an even par 72 in the afternoon and is tied for 15th place at 142. Matthew Rogers is tied for 19th a stroke back at 143 after firing a 73 and a two-under 70.

Jack Hutcheson had a 77 in the opening round before shaving off 10 strokes in the afternoon as he shot a career-low five-under par 67 that featured an eagle on the par-5 first hole. Hutcheson is tied for 26th place at 144. Andy Scott is tied for 45th at 146 after a 75 and an one-under par 71, while Chase Blanton had scores of 79 and 73 and is tied for 78th at 152. Hunter Phillips, who is playing as an individual for the Bobcats, had scorecards of 73 and 77 and is tied at 68th at 150 after two rounds.

The 54-hole event concludes the final round Tuesday (March 10) with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
