FLORENCE, S.C. - The No. 19 Bobcat women's
tennis team of Georgia College & State University (6-6, 4-5
PBC) saw a three-match win steak come to end today (March 21)
losing 9-0 to the No. 9 Francis Marion University Patriots (12-2,
5-1 PBC).
The first doubles duo of Marjorie Ceppo
(Sao Paulo,
Brazil) and Gabby Acuna
(Peachtree City,
Ga.) fell 8-3 to Kristyna
Horakova and Jitka Gavdunova.
The French twosome of Bertille
Lion and Diane
Danna lost to the team of Tereza Sykorova and Sabina
Baberadova 8-2 at second doubles. At third doubles, the freshman
team of Adriana Acuna
(Peachtree City,
Ga.) and Angy Cuellar
(Bogota,
Colombia) were beaten 8-3 by the
duo of Valeska Ibscher and Saskia Ludwig.
At first singles, Ceppo lost a hard-fought battle to Sykorova
4-6, 6-2, 6-4. The senior falls to 6-6 on the season.
Danna was beaten by the Patriots' Horakova 6-2, 6-1 at second
singles. Danna drops to .500 (6-6) on the 2009 spring season.
Francis Marion's Gavdunova took down Georgia College's Lion at
number three singles 7-5, 6-3.
Cuellar was outmatched in straight 6-2 sets to Baberadova at the
number five singles slot. The Acuna sisters also were unable to
manage a win. Gabby Acuna fell to Ibscher at fourth singles 6-4,
6-1 and drops to 7-5 on the year. Ludwig beat Adriana Acuna 6-1,
6-0 at six singles.
Up next, Georgia College travels to Pensacola, Fla. to compete
in the White Sand Invitational. The Bobcats will hit the courts
against the University of North Alabama March 24.
