Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Georgia College volleyball team (8-7, 3-4 PBC) didn't pick up any ordinary win at Columbus State University (2-14, 0-6 PBC) Tuesday night; the four-set Bobcat victory earned more than a few milestones for the GC Volleyball program.
The win sets a school record for the program, besting last year's total of seven victories. It also marks the first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) victory on the road in the three years of Bobcat Volleyball, and the match also completes the first PBC series sweep in program history, as the Bobcats beat the Cougars in Milledgeville Sept. 19.
Georgia College started with a dominant 25-14 first-set victory. After a 27-25 marathon in set two, Columbus State rebounded with a 25-20 win in set three. Georgia College then closed the match with a tight 25-23 victory in the fourth set.
"This was a great win for our program," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "It was another total team effort."
Freshman setter Kayla Brockway (Jacksonville, Florida) was all over the boxscore, recording a 30-assist, 12-dig double-double, and adding six aces and four kills, including the final point of the match. Brockway finished with half of the team's 12 aces.
Leading the Bobcats in kills was classmate Taylor Svehla (Cumming) with nine, adding four total blocks as well for 14.5 points. The Bobcat defense was strong, putting four players in double-figure digs. Joining Brockway was senior Ella Anastasiades (Atlanta) with a team-high 17, Chandler Ewaldsen (Savannah) with 14, and Katie Ray (Cumming) with 10.
Georgia College had balance in its offense, getting kills from nine different players.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m., traveling to UNC Pembroke.
