Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –The Georgia College volleyball squad (6-3, 2-0 PBC) improved to 2-0 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play for the first time in program history Saturday, sweeping three sets from Columbus State University (1-9, 0-2 PBC) at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats took the three sets 25-20, 25-23 and 25-13.
"This was a great weekend for us," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "The whole team stepped up and played together. We had a lot of fun today."
Perhaps leading the team in fun was freshman Taylor Svehla (Cumming) pounding out 16 kills on .609 hitting. She finished with a team-best 19 points. Flanking Svehla in the attack was Maggie Roper (Buford) with eight kills and Blake Willoughby (Savannah) with seven.
Freshman setter Kayla Brockway (Jacksonville, Florida) tallied 37 assists, coming a pair of digs short of keeping her five-match double-double streak alive. Sophomore Chandler Ewaldsen (Savannah) provided the team lead in digs at 10.
Svehla's 16 kills snap the school record for a three-set match. The old mark was 14, set by Rachel Rice (2013) in 2013 against Claflin University. Svehla has also now eclipsed the 100-kill plateau, totaling 101 after today's effort.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m., traveling to Lander University.
