MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Georgia College Volleyball (5-2, 0-1 PBC) fell in its first conference matchup in a tough 3-1 battle at the University of Montevallo Falcons (7-3, 1-0 PBC).
Montevallo came out strong at home, holding the Bobcats to 37 points for the first two sets (25-18, 25-19). The Bobcats rallied in the third set, though, smashing the Falcons in a 25-14 set win. The Bobcats lost only by two in the fourth set (25-23) for their first conference loss of the season.
Despite the loss, the Bobcats recorded strong numbers both defensively and offensively. Ebony Powers (Jacksonville, Florida) led the team in kills with 15, her season high thus far. She finished the four-set match with a .261 hitting percentage and 15.5 points.
Setter Kayla Brockway (Jacksonville, Florida) also had a strong game, recording 33 assists and two service aces. She also grabbed 15 digs and notched five kills in 11 attempts, tying her for the best kill percentage on the team at .273.
Chandler Ewaldsen (Savannah, Georgia) is continuing to thrive in her new position. As libero, she had 21 digs in all four sets. She looks to improve upon her current national ranking of No. 26 with 5.44 digs per set.
"We fought hard tonight," head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "We came out of the gate a little slow but picked up momentum. We are all excited to be back on the court tomorrow."
Bobcats will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. They return from Montevallo via Columbus for another conference fight against the Bobcat rival Columbus State University Cougars.
