JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Georgia College & State University Volleyball team (10-14) came up empty in a doubleheader at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC)/South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Crossover Saturday, falling to both Tusculum University (9-10) and Carson-Newman University (21-4).
In the opener against Tusculum, the Pioneers took all three sets 25-19, 27-25 and 25-13.
Junior Mary Kate Kotzin (Dunwoody, Georgia) led with seven kills, as the Bobcats had trouble getting the offense going. Freshman Riese Johnson (Cumming, Georgia) led with 15 assists, and classmate Alanis Bernis (Auburn, Georgia) paced the team with 10 digs.
In the second half of the doubleheader, the host C-N Eagles took all three sets as well 32-30, 25-17 and 25-11.
Graduate student Rachel Machovec (Buckhead, Georgia) led in this one with 11 kills, flanked by Madeline Gilmartin (Kennesaw, Georgia) with a career-best nine. Johnson led setting with 14 assists, while senior Emily Long (Mooresville, North Carolina) posted 12. Bernis again captained the defensive effort with 16 digs.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m., hosting Augusta University.
