Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – It took until the 12th inning but the Georgia College Baseball team (1-0) began the 2022 campaign with a victory, beating Savannah State University (0-1), 6-4 Tuesday on the road.
Things got a little wild to help the Bobcats escape with the win. Three wild pitches helped the Bobcats plate two runs in the top of the 12th without the benefit of a hit. In the bottom half lefty Luc Scudellari (Roswell) left little doubt, setting the Tigers down 1-2-3 for the victory.
First baseman Mason Spivey (Appling) impressed in his first career action for GC, going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. He drove in Cam Hill (Marietta) for the game's first run on a sacrifice fly in the first. Rightfielder Paul Grazzini (Marietta) went 2-for-4, scoring three times. Catcher Austin Holloway (Social Circle) fired off three singles in his four trips.
The Bobcats used five arms to hold SSU to just four runs on 10 hits in 12 innings, fanning 11 Tiger batters. Scudellari (1-0) tossed the final two frames hitless with four whiffs. Starter Jacob Hester (Marietta) got the day started right with three scoreless frames on two hits and a pair of strikeouts.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m., playing host to Defending National Champion University of Tampa for the start of a three-game set at John Kurtz Field.
